Early Monday morning on December 19, 2011, I noticed something on the side of the road and was even more interested when I saw someone staring at the same object. As I got closer it was clear that the object was an unfortunate animal that got ran over by a vehicle. As I drove pass, it appeared to be a baby fox. There are a few around my neighborhood that feed on the nesting birds (mostly ducks/eggs) by the Charles River. The Charles River is about five minutes walk from Spunkey’s Backyard.

Upon returning home I decided to take a picture of the baby fox for my hub followers. It was funny to see the individual that was staring at the dead animal because they were inspecting it with all kinds of expressions. When I saw the poor creature for myself I realized why. The vehicle tire ripped its skin off from the neck down exposing his/her intestines (guts that is). The tire tore the flesh off this little guy all the way down to its spine, crushed his/her skull and popped its eyes out. What a way to go, skinned alive and pressed to death.

This accident was three homes away from Spunky’s Backyard and it was not a baby fox but a rabbit. I do hope it is not one of the two rabbits that visit Spunkey’s Backyard often. It looks like the same one but only time will tell. Not to worry, the little guy is in Bunny Heaven now as you can see from the heavenly picture ; - ]

Summer time is always fun to see the rabbits eating, playing and taking a nap under the butterfly tree while I conduct my business.
